In 1888, Shri Jaykishandas Ahluwalia, Shri Chunilal Ghelabhai shah, Shri Dahyabhai Bardolia and Shri Bhaidas Ichharam Reshamwala established a school opposite to government school no – 6 in Gopipura. They started the school in the name of ‘ The English School ‘ with only 11 students which was popularly known as ‘Dhingli School’. And inspite of adverse and odd situations, the aforesaid four great education lovers with their personal debts continued to run the school.

After 18 years of establishment of the school the Department of the Education decided to give Rs. 1500/- as government grant to the school, now the name of the school was changed to ‘ The Sarvajanik School’.

This gorgeous crimson coloured building near Athwa Gate of Surat is a very well preserved heritage building of the city. What is remarkable is that it also houses one of the 3 clock-towers of Surat.
